Composer, Teacher, Liturgical Consultant

Myrna Keough is Associate Professor of Sacred Music and Coordinator of Liturgy at Mount Angel Seminary, a Benedictine seminary in Mount Angel, Oregon. She holds doctorates in Sacred Music (DSM) and in Ministry (DMin). Myrna is married to Shawn, and mother to five children.

Myrna’s love for sacred music began very early in life. She studied piano, flute, and voice growing up and began using her musical gifts in liturgical settings and composition quite early. While living in Belgium to support her husband’s studies, Myrna began working at the American College of Louvain instructing seminarians in liturgical music and composing music for the liturgy. In addition to working at Mount Angel Seminary, Myrna supports local parishes and musicians through workshops and consultation for a deeper knowledge, understanding, and appreciation for the rich traditional of liturgical music.

Beauty, tradition, and simplicity have become guiding principles in my planning and composing of liturgical music. When the heart of devotional and worship is linked with integrity to the outward liturgical action through an interface of beauty-solemnity-tradition-simplicity, the worship which results is natural and unforced in both the interior and exterior dimensions of worship.
